While teaching The Money Class, I developed a series of quizzes, based on the ideas we were discussing. They were designed to be both easy (obvious answers) and difficult (no good answers). Some of the suggested responses were funny (Liquidity refers to investing in stocks for companies that sell water or other liquid products). The quizzes were self-graded and never collected. They were really just discussion starters.
Now we have created the Workbook. It's a 28-page, full-sized (8.5 x 11 inches) saddle-stitched booklet that includes quizzes, exercises, worksheets, and other material to support using The Richest Man in New Babylon as a textbook for a class.
The center four pages of the workbook are designed to be pulled out and they include forms for the students to use to put in their names and initial thoughts/goals for the class. The first page includes a student self-assessment. This four-page "spread" is designed to be handed back to the class leader. It includes space for the leaders' notes and comments. This "spread" is designed to be returned to the students when the class ends. There is another self-evaluation. The students can then fold over one page and compare their initial thoughts with their evaluation at the end of the class. There is also a large section devoted to a student "review" of the class; vital feedback that we can use to improve the workbook and share with future class leaders.
