About the Author

Ridge Kennedy has more than 30 years of experience as a professional writer working in newspapers, technical publishing, advertising, marketing and public relations. In recent years he was engaged as a writer on “financial literacy” projects for a professional accounting association where he was responsible for the financial literacy program.

Independently, about 10 years ago, he undertook a volunteer assignment to teach “The Money Class” to men who were incarcerated in a special program at a residential drug rehabilitation program in Newark, New Jersey. For about four years he went to Newark on Saturday mornings and met with small groups of men who were incarcerated and led a series of six one-hour classes. The "curriculum" focused on the basic issues and challenges the men would face in the area of personal finance. Through this experience and his research in the literature available for basic financial planning questions, Kennedy began to develop “the rules for financial serenity.” The Richest Man in Babylon was one of the first books recommended to him by people in personal financial planning and the accounting profession.

At some point in the last few years, a vague idea about doing an updated version of the classic book coalesced in Kennedy’s mind. In late 2014 he set a goal – to finish a very rough draft by the end of the year. He missed his goal but only by a month or so and now he is working with friends and reviewers, seeking input from various sources to try to make this a book that will be useful to men facing very serious personal financial challenges.
